Founder’s Spotlight: Vessel
Jasmine from @vesselathletics wanted to create a highly functional, technical garment for marathon runners. Her idea was unique, but she stuck to her vision - we are so excited to support Jasmine in launching her products! Visit their shop at VesselAthletics.com.
What inspired you to start your business?
I started Vessel Athletics after countless failed attempts to find a comfortable and convenient hydration solution for my runs. Hydration backpacks and vests were too heavy, bouncy and bulky, and I didn't want to be holding a bottle during my runs. I started thinking about the different ways I could create a new solution that is lighter and hands-free. Soon after, the idea for the Hydroshirt was born! The other part about starting a business was being passionate about the industry/group I'm creating products for. I've been an avid runner since college, and the running community has been incredible.
What challenges have you overcome along the way?
The list is never-ending! Some of the greater challenges we have faced so far have been around the design and production of the Hydroshirt. Not having a background in apparel meant we had to learn a lot about how the manufacturing industry works. It's also meant we've had to find the right partners to help guide us. AJG has been such an important part in getting to where we are today!
Do you have any advice for others looking to start their own business?
1) Whatever you decide to start, invest in building relationships with others in your space/industry. The most amazing opportunities, learnings and experiences have opened up for me because of my relationships. And don't just take, find ways that you can give/support people in whatever it is that they are working on. 2) Find a solution for a group of people who have a problem/need. The earlier you can get them to show their commitment to your solution (e.g. via a pre-order, deposit, etc), the sooner you'll know that you are on the right path towards building something unique!
