Founder’s Spotlight: Margo Paige
As a woman-owned business, supporting other women founders has been a huge part of what inspires us. We asked Margo, founder of @ShopMargoPaige, about her journey in starting a sustainable, affordable handbag & apparel company. Shop her full collection at Margo Paige.
What inspired you to start your business?
I was turned away from a college football game for not carrying a clear handbag. I went online that night to find that clear handbags were either inexpensive and would break on the second wear or priced above $200. I thought that there could be a happy medium- stylish, durable, and at a fair price. I started sketching some ideas with no background in design, and it just came together about a year later. We've since pivoted into a sustainable model and added apparel!
What challenges have you overcome along the way?
Margo Paige launched three months before the pandemic hit, which is a less-than-ideal time to have a product launch that is based around large events. In hindsight, it was a gift to be able to have that time to reconfigure what I wasn't able to do at the beginning, which was making the business model completely sustainable. It's the road bumps when starting a business that really makes everything come together and reaffirm why it was started.
Do you have any advice for others looking to start their own business?
Be consistent. Most days can be very mundane and monotonous, but when you run a business, it's all about the number of chances you give yourself. The more consistent you are, the better the results.
